The motor goes down and not up. i was told the seals on the cylinder were bad and therefore it lost all fluid. The motor seems to work as it does make a sound and it does help the engine go down.

How do i remove the cylinder? I've remover the bottom pin, need suggestion on taking out the top one.

Have you tried to refill the PTT unit? If not, open the cover and fill it with auto trans fluid (boat should be level) until it is full. Now run the PTT unit down and up, and let it sit in the up position for a few minutes to let any air bubble out, and refill. Repeat as necessary until the unit works properly. If that fails, remove the bolts on the base of the PTT unit and the pin in the center of the upper rod, and tap the pin out. You have some rust around the upper pin, so use some penetrating oil and you may need some heat from a gun or torch. The trim cylinder should unscrew with a spanner, to access the seals.

Lift the engine up. As you did to take the photos.
Remove the plug and fill with fluid. REPLACE THE PLUG!!
Cycle the tilt up and down a couple of times. With the engine in the up
position, check the fluid level again. Refill if neccesary.

On my 90 Hp there is a warning decal by the fill plug stating Under Pressure, Do Not remove plug with Motor in Down Position, Open with Motor in Raised Position (I'm Paraphrasing).

achris, I tried it and it seems the seal on top really is bad. Fluid started coming out after the 3rd refill and cycle of the tilt/trim...Is it the only seal it has? Is it hard to replace? Where can I get it? The person that sold the boat told me he had it but he will be out of town for a few days... :(

You have to remove the tilt cylinder and strip it down to replace the seal. Get a manual, it's all in there.

Thanks for the help.

I have already removed and took the piston out. Replaced the o-rings insisde but to get to the actual seal that is leaking all the way at the top I have to unscrew the bottom part of the piston itself somehow...Dont want to use a channel lock and a vice because I dont want to bend/mark the edges...How is that bottom piece unscrewed? If you've seen it out I mean. I tried looking for an exploded view and could not find it.

If you get on the crowleymarine.com site, you should be able to see a picture of the PTT unit. Maybe that will give you an idea of how to get to the seal.
