Hi all,

I'm just getting ready to throw a rebuilt engine in my boat and I want to confirm that it is in fact a Mercruiser 140 and not a 120. The engine came with the boat I'm restoring and the seller told me it was a 140. The valve cover says 140, but the serial number on the valve cover and the block are different.

I know the 140 is supposed to have a harmonic balancer and the 120 has just a flange with a pulley, but the engine I have doesn't have either yet.

I would like to confirm it is in fact a 140, and not a 120.

The serial number that is on the riveted on tag is 4330238, and on the side of the block is stamped: M04245RA.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Ryan

140 has a dampener on the front of the crankshaft then the pulley bolted to the dampener
120 has no dampener - just the pulley

EDIT oops I see you already know that

Part number on the crankshaft the best way

Where would I find the P/N on the Crank?

Unfortunately I already bolted/sealed the oil pan to the block.

Thanks,
