How to tell exactly what motor

I have a 1999 Glastron GX185 with the 4.3 Volvo. I know its the GL model but was wondering how to tell exactly which GL model it is? When i look for parts online there are several different GL models listed.

You need the full model number. There should be a tag on the engine possibly near the starboard riser. It will have either a BY or WT in it.

If the tags are gone??
Send the hull id# to Glastron(they still in business?)
The'll have all the motor info.

I needed to determine the engine in my 265 Albemarle, so I sent the Hull ID to Albemarle and they sent me the serial numbers of the original engine and outdrive. I then looked up the serial numbers on the Volvo Penta website and Viola, I have a 7.4GIiHUBCE engine and a DP-D1 drive.

Now, having said that, I suspect that the engine may have been swapped out at one point for a 7.4GSI but I am still looking into that. Unfortunately the id sticker on the engine was painted over at some point and I cannot read it. One of my spring tasks is to see if I can remove the paint from the ID tag to assure I know what I am dealing with.

I am not sure if glastron is still in business, but it is worth a shot.

GL means carbureted. Gi means fuel injected probably throttle body, GXi is electronic fuel injection, Not sure what GXiE is but it's 1000.00 more and has more hp. Then there's GIcaI which is Gee I cant afford It.

I bought a 97 Crownline for parts. It has a Volvo MPI motor. How do I tell if it's 5.7 or 5.0, Hp?

Model number is the easiest way.
