How to tell if Alpha Gen I or Gen II and Ratio

Hello everyone. I just recently purchased my second boat (1999 Regal with 3.0L Alpha One). How do I tell whether or not it is generation I or II and how do I tell what gear ratio I have? The boat didn't have an owner's manual or service manual avaliable (seems like this is pretty common amongst used vessels).

It's a Gen II,..... Because it's a 1999.......

It's a 1.98/1 Ratio because it's powered by a 3.0l............

i agree about the Gen II.To be SURE about the ratio you have to pull the drive,drain it,pull the top cover,and count the teeth on the gears.Someone may have changed the gears.

Do you anticipate a problem ?

I would think your local Merc dealer can order the manuals.I can.
