How To Tell If My Yamaha Has An Alarm Horn?

I am a fairly new owner of a 1996 40 HP Yamaha. It has Yamaha digital gauges. One gauge is the Tach and the other is the speedometer with a clock and trip odometer....On my previous Johnson and Merc engines when you turn their key to "ON" before the engine starts, the alarm horn goes off just letting you know that it works OK (I guess).....Anyway - when I turn my Yamaha key to "ON" before starting there is no horn or anything --- silence....Is this normal? How can you be sure that the overtemp alarm horn works properly and you will get an alarm if the engine heats up for some reason before it damages itself? Thanks for the help...and assistance.

On my 2004 150 4 stroke if I don't hook up the kill switch and turn the key to start, I hear the alarm horn. If I do connect the lanyard to the kill switch, I get no alarm. Try and leave the kill switch lanyard off and see if you hear it when you turn the key.

while the yamaha V motors will alarm when cranked with the stop lanyard removed mot of the little engines wont. try it though.
if you still dont get an alarm leave the key on,locate the pink wire coming from the temp switch on the cyl head.
unplug it,jump from the engine harness side of that unpluged pink wire to ground and you should get a tone and a visual indicate.

THANK YOU BOTH.....

I will give it a try when I am back in the boat first of the week and see what gives...

This is a good site for Yamaha help and advice.
