How to tell what stern drive a prop will fit

I have saw several nice looking SS props for sale at flea markets, individuals, and Craigs list. I would like to know if there is any way to tell what kind of drive the prop will fit by looking at it. Some times the owner does not remember what it came off of etc. I'm assuming that most stern drive manufacturers use different size splines etc. Is there anyway to tell?

You are correct. There are props that fit certain shaft sizes, spline counts and gearcase sizes. Hard to tell you which props to look for unless we know what outdrive you have......wouldn't hurt to tell us what prop you have now.

I have a 4.3 cobra stern drive with a 14 1/2 X 19 prop.
Thanks

The Cobra should have a 19 spline propshaft. Those props are sorta rare but any prop currently hubbed for Evinrude / Johnson or OMC can be rehubbed to fit your drive. Any of the new square bore props will fit too. Just get the Cobra hub kit.

I count the splines, measure the hub diameter, and then just hope that the person that is selling it can count also.
I have bought a few props like that and only got one that didnt fit.
