Hey Grizzly. Real brain teaser sometimes...these older engines. But....make sure the points are set @.020. Connections at points are clean and tight. Did you get the coils you have to push the wire up into. If so, make sure the little pin in the coil went into the spark plug wire straight.

I have found that if you don't get these pins in straight, no spark. Taking for granted you had to put the boot on the end of the spark plug wire, did you skin the wire back a little and let the core wire down against the coil that spark plug end goes into? Can't remember what these darn things are called. The coil has a sharp spike that goes through the center of the spark plug wire. This should go through the CENTER of the wire. If all else fails, take the coil to a dealer and see if he can test it for you. But just sounds like something isn't making good contact somewhere.

Keep us posted....thanks.

Measure the resitance between the spark plug connector up in the boot and the engine block. It should be around 5Kohms +- 1kohm or so. If you get that you have good contact with your boots and the spike thing up in the coil.

By the way - This ouboard has no kill switch right?

Good luck!

trying to avoid going to dealership. there must be a way to test coil with ohm meter. checked wire ends made good connection.

Try swapping the coil side for side and see if the no-spark condition follows the coil... Make sure non of the coil leads are pinched or rubbing on the flywheel. They should be tucked back under the coil. Also, make sure you've done and checked all of OBJ's suggestions.
- Scott
