How to test high side pressure on a GIIHUBCE

I am trying to test the high side fuel pressure on a 7.4GIIHUBCE vintage 1995. I found a Schrader fitting on the low side, but nothing on the high side to attach a gauge to. There are a couple of plugs on the fuel rail, but the hole on the one that is accessible is to big for the fitting on my Harbor freight gauge. My question is, is there some sort of a kit to install a Schrader fitting on the fuel rail that would allow fitting the gauge. Or, is there some sort of fitting that can be installed in line on the high side hose that feeds the rail. I am at a bit of a loss on how to proceed with what I thought would be a quick test. BTW, my dealer said they tested the fuel pressure last year and it was OK, but I am diagnosing a hard start / poor idle condition and need to start with the basics.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Dave

I went to the local FLAPS and bought some fittings that I think will tap into the fuel rail. I cut one of the hoses that came with my cheap harbor freight fuel system pressure tester, and am going to try to cobble up an adapter to couple to my new fitting. Its a bit of a pain in the arse, and a very temporary fix to get high side fuel pressure. I hope I don't blow myself up, and I would like very much to adapt a Schrader fitting as a long term solution. I had to do a similar cobble several years ago testing fuel pressure on an old Porsche 911. It worked fine.

Hopefully someone here will chime in with a more permanent solution. I suspect VP sells its dealers some high dollar set up to tap into the fuel lines.

It's been a while now since I've checked fuel pressure on the Volvo 7.4l EFI's but there should be a Schrader valve on/near the reservoir top cover. The Schrader valve part number is 3854152 and in the following link, you will see the part number listed twice. Item number 2 and 65 while the Protective Cap is item number 19 and 64. Maybe this will help guide you to the right location to check. Let us know what you find, good luck.:)

Our thanks to member allingeneral for finding your fuel system already. Post 11.;)

Thanks for the reply Fun Times. Although I have a 7.4GIIHUBCE engine, the fuel system (pumps) were upgraded to the newer style by a prior owner. My local dealer told me the HUBCE fuel reservoir and pumps are NLA and that Volvo makes a conversion kit to upgrade to the newer fuel pumps and reservoir.

SO, my fuel pumps look like these. http://www.volvopentastore.com/Fuel...on_id.761655425--store_id.366--view_id.789305

Unfortunately, during this conversion process there was no Schrader valve installed on the high side.
I need to fabricate, or cobble something up to tap into the high side. I was hoping to find a fitting to allow a Schrader valve to be installed in either the high side fuel line, Something like part #73 in this diagram http://www.volvopentastore.com/Fuel-System-And-Lower-Intake-Manifold/dm/store_id.366--view_id.789093, or perhaps installing a Schrader valve directly on the fuel rail.

I was hopeful that someone may have run into this issue in the past and might provide some insight into possible solutions. I can order a Schrader valve from my local dealer, but I will need some sort of a fitting to screw it into.

Thanks
Dave
