How to test rectifier on a Tower of Power?

I have a '77 Mercury 115 Tower of Power that I recently inherited from my late Grandpa. We had a lot of great memories cutting across the water being pushed by that old Mercury!

I'm going over the boat and fixing things that my Grandpa let slide in recent years. I haven't been able to get the tach working and I seem to not be getting any charge to my battery. I'm thinking rectifier??? Does anyone have any instructions on how to hook up my voltmeter and test to see if the rectifier needs replaced?
