How to test trim mtr - '89 175 Evinrude Intruder

12 V to new trim relays, 12 volts out of relays, relays click, trim mtr does not operate. 2 wire mtr. Tried grounding mtr and applying 12 V to blue or green wire, just smoked the wires!

Before starting diagnostic, noted that the red, green and blue clear wire bullet connectors from switch on motor cowling to relays were burnt/brown.

Am I cking the motor correctly?? Pls help!!

That PTT electric motor is a dual polarity motor, meaning that connecting the battery directly to BOTH of the wires (green and blue) will cause the motor to run in one direction....... then reversing those battery jumper wires will cause the motor to run in the reverse direction.

If that electric motor smokes on the above test, then obviously it requires replacing or repairing.

Let me make sure I understand you. Are you saying connect + to blue and - to green and it should work? To test the opposite direction simply reverse the leads?
