How to use a depth finder???

Here's a picture...

When the ACC switch is switched on, the depth finder gets power. It reads 0.5 and flashes. The previous owner said that it has to calibrate for a few moments. Sure enough it'll start reading depth but it constantly flashing. Sometimes it seems to get "stuck" on a certain depth. Other times it'll never stop flashing 0.5.

Anyone know how to use it? Or where I can find the info for it???

Nope. They had the 3800, not the 3500. Mine is a simple version. I figured out how to set the deep and shallow alarm and how to switch from M to FT, but I can't get it to stop blinking 0.5.

Where is the transducer usually mounted?

Follow the wire to locate the transducer. Some are mounted on the transom, some are shoot through the hull and would likely be located in the bilge. If the transducer was incorrectly installed up front, that would account for the lack of a reading. The boat needs to be in contact with the water where the transducer is located. If there are air bubbles in the mounting that will also create a poor reading.

For what it is worth.... my transducer is mounted on the transom and only reads when the boat is in the water.

Also, if it is not adjusted right mine stops reading on plane and flashes the last number it displayed. (When my unit flashes a number it means the transducer is not getting a good reading) Had to adjust the angle of my transducer to be parallel to the bottom of the boat on plane for it to work properly.

Also, follow and check Slivertips suggestions, they are right on.

I think I found it. This thing is sitting on under the engine, not bolted down at all. I just snapped a picture with my cell phone. The pic is sideways. It's the round black thing with a black wire coming out of it.
