I found this post by Silvertip on another section on this forum. I though it could be used here. I just changed the wording a little and added a couple of lines...

If one scrolls through the first few pages of this forum you will find that there many questions regarding boat outdrive repair . Many of those questions usually have the same or similar answer. Location of drain plugs, what oil, wont idle,no spark routinely appear. Before you post your question, look through the forum or better yet, use the SEARCH feature to see if you can find an answer to your question. It is very tedious to answer the same question over and over again. Here is how to use the SEARCH feature.

If this does not answer your question click the Advanced Search then in the Search By Keyword box make sure Search Titles Only is selected. If you need to search for a word with three or less letters, use the + in front and after the word (Example +oil+)

Re: Using The Search Feature

Most people DON"T read past the end of their fingers.
I've been on this site for about 3 years and only found that about a year ago.
As soon as this get moved down to page 2 no one's gonna read it.
Maybe you can get Don To put it in as a sticky on the front of the threads.
But thanks for your post.J

This should be added to Don's list(s) as the first item with a link to this post:
1) Using The Search Feature
then...
2) How to Ask a Question

Re: Using The Search Feature

I suggested long ago that the when someone clicks on the IBoats "Boat Forums" it defaults to a page of Instructions, Tips, Stickies, Warnings and such. You can't get past this page until you click ENTER FORUM which then takes you to the MAIN page. This may work for only the first timer or those who set up a "Shortcut" to the main page. The regulars may create a shortcut to just their favorite part of the forum. Regardless, it at least lets one know how to use the features. Posting pictures seems to drive people nuts and it really very simple. Those instructions can also be on that first page.

I would also suggest that threads that are inactive for more than 60 days be put into an archive. This shortens the lists yet the archive can be referenced/searched in the future if desired.
