Ive got a boat that already has an aerator on it, not sure if it even work or not but the wire was cut before I got it. So I want to try and hook it up and see if it works and if not then Ill buy a new one. Anyway if I knew the function of the three wires I could wire it to a switch, there are three wires coming from it, a black wire, a green wire and a brown wire. Does anybody know how to wire one of these or the function of each of the wires or maybe how I can test it to see if it works. I know the black is ground, I think the brown might be a hot wire but Im not real sure. Can anyone help?

Are you sure you are looking at the aerator and not a bilge pump? Aerators normally have only two wires -- +12V from the switch and ground. If the switch has a manual and automatic functions the switch would be labeled that way. Bilge pumps that have a built in float switch will have three wires.

Ground the black wire, touch the brown to battery+ and see what runs. As mentioned, brown wire is usually bilge.
If it is in fact the aerator, the green may be a 2nd speed.

Im pretty sure, could be mistaken but I think thats the wires. Neither was hooked up and ive got wires to both pulled up. I thought the bilge only had two wires. Maybe not?????? They are down in there and kinda hard to get to one of em has 2 wires and the other 3 wires. But I was thinking the bilge had the two and the aerator three if im not mistaken.

If a bilge pump does not have a built in automatic float switch it will have two wires. If it has an automatic float switch it needs three wires. This enables the pump to be oprated manually with a switch at the helm, or automatically when you are away from the boat and the helm switch is turned off. I really think you have the bilge and aerator wires switched.
