So I have this 1982 35HP Tiller Evinrude electric start long shaft. It has the manual choke but I was wondering how I could Wire up an electric choke That I had off another motors carb.

I was thinking I could just wire it to the start switch. The only problem being that the choke would engage every time I started the motor.

Unless I install a second button to activate the choke when i wanted? What do y'all think? This motor has the rectifier too. I don't know if there is a way to wire it to that maybe?

A second button, wired to the hot side of the start button, is the way to go

You will then be able to start without choke when choke is not necessary and maintain the choke briefly after starting if necessary.
But I cannot see what advantage there will be in converting a locally controlled motor to an electrically operated choke
( Remember, " What ain't fitted can't go wrong" )

I did that to my brother's boat years ago. His choke closed electronically when he pushed the key in, and it quit for him. He was too cheap to buy a new switch, so I re-wired it for him on a separate little button that I had laying around in my garage (it was "free" for him) and when he started the cold motor, he would just hit the button and hold it in as he turned the key. It worked great for him. Did this because it was not a tiller motor, but yours is. Why would you be converting to an electric operated choke?

a manual choke is not only bullet proof, its extremely simplistic and never fails

Thanks for the replies!
I think I just like buttons! Lol plus I don’t think I have the choke knob that connects to the linkage that comes out of the cowling...

so I figure instead of buying one/ taking the cowing off to start the motor, ill just put a button where the choke knob normally goes!
