Just got a Luhrs that has a windlass mounted with a 12volt battery next to it. The battery has no connections for charging so it goes dead after a few uses. Does anyone know how to wire the windlass battery into the charging system of the boat? (2 Chrysler 440's with High output alternators with built in regulators). From main batteries to the windlass battery is 28ft. What size wire should be used for the charging? I prefer to leave the current system in place rather than running heavy battery cables from the rear to the front.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I'd run #8 wires from one of the rear batteries. Protect the circuit with a 25 amp circuit breaker.
Put in a continuos duty relay operated by the ignition switch to isolate the batteries when not running....
