Had a smaller auto starter on when bought boat. Bought Sierra 18-5911 starter. This thing is a beast!! (huge and heavy!).

Anyways, the old one only had one post option for the small wire- this one seems to have 2! (and no diagram)
One seems to be labeled R and the other S??

Q:Which one does the small wire go on please? (hopefully I'm not supposed to have 2 small wires???

(you can't see the R or S but it's printed beside the small posts with the red base)

In almost all cases the Yellow/Red stripe goes to the small lug closest to the block

Ok and how can I tell if somewhere (not used in previous auto starter install) there is a wire that belongs on the R? Does this engine need a wire on R? Thanks in advance

Ayuh,.... The outer tiny lug supplies battery voltage to the points, if so equipped, or the electric fuel pump, if so equipped,...
While the starter is engaged, aka: Crankin',...

'n I think you have neither,....
