Hi,
I have an electric start suzuki dt 50 engine. Alot of troubleshooting steps say to 'turn the engine over'. I assume this means not actually starting the engine. How is this done?

Thanks in advance

Leave the ignition off. Use a small jumper wire to jump +12V to the solenoid small stud. That will activate the starter without ignition.

Okay thanks,

When you say small jumper wire, I can just use a small wire to connect from the positive battery lead to the small stud on the solenoid?

I know I can just manually move the flywheel around if I want to say add some oil in the spark plug holes. But to do a compression test I would have to use the method above (jump the starter motor)?

Just thinking, would it be possible to just remove the spark plugs and turn the engine on as normal?

On a motor that requires a safety lanyard, you can remove the clip and the motor will turn over but not start. And yes, you can do your compression test one plug at a time with the other plugs out. You should have run the motor to normal operating temperature first. Good luck.

Pull the lanyard clip, remove all spark plugs and open the throttle to WOT.
