I recently got a 89 50 hp force and I changed out the water pump and took it out on the lake andI would swear the exhaust leg water was just barely warm at idle, the next time I take it out the exhaust water is hot, not so bad that you couldn't hold your hand in it but hot enough to make it look steamy off the 60degree water . When I was taking it out of the water the first ,when it was barely warm I ran the boat alittle shallow and could tell the prop hit the sandy bottom alittle , could this have caused it too pickup some sand and clog anything up, it looks like the amount of exhaust water is the same.

thnx
mark

The thermostat is probably 135 degree. That is pretty warm to the touch. I doubt the sand caused any damage.

It is pretty simple. I would replace items 22,23 24 and 25 from this diagram. FORCE THERMOSTAT
You might want to post your model number. This diagram is from a force 50HP 1989 motor but there were multiple models for that year.
