How would I go about cleanig my engine compartment?

I have an 1988 88 spl.I was wondering if there is a drain hole in the engine compartment so I can hose it out?What could I put on the engine to degrease it?I have alot of debris and foam from the mice that living in it.Should I just run it and let it burn off?I vacumed out as much as I could but there still is a bit in there and it stinks terribly.

I would avoid putting water directly on the powerhead due to electrical components and wiring but it's okay to water down the pan area if it's done carefully.

I use WD40 to spray the powerhead down thoroughly, then use a brush to stir that around to free up anything there. I then use a air compressor to blow it off...... works for me.
