How would I know if the upper and lower gear case weren't the same gear ratio

Hi guys I'm back with more questions. Thank you for getting me to this point and saving me a lot of money. I bought a used stringer drive to fix the blown upper gear case on mine. If the used upper and my lower where not the same gear ratio would it make horrible noises or couldn't you tell. It sounds fine in the driveway and shifts great. I'm sure my mechanic counted the teeth but I am taking my family out tonight and I would rather not be towed. Thanks in advance.

Mismatched gear ratios would only cause poor performance or the engine to turn too many RPMs, not a tow in. (unless you left it turning too many RPMs!)

The lowers dont have to match the uppers, the lowers do the shifting, the uppers have the ratio for the right performance curve for the engine size.

Yup, the upper is what determines the gear ratio, not the lower.
