how would u fix a transom

hi i just bought a wellcraft v-20 steplift 1981 i love this boat but the transom is in need of repair the wood is rotten my plan is to remove motor and dig all the wood out without removing any fiberglass if i can and replacing the wood and fill with west system not having done this before dose this sound like a good plan?

You do not want to remove the fiberglass but the wood? Can't deal with that. What do you mean exactly? Do you have photos?

Ride The Lightning, if you look at the link above, you will see with the seacast system, you dig the wood out of the cavity, then fill with seacast resin. there are lots of photos, in the link.
