Current tilt-trim unit isn't working.

One of the things we're looking at is buying a tilt-trim on Ebay for 1977 Johnson 115hp.

I see "2 wire motors", and "3 wire motors". Is there any real difference in this? Sounds like one or two wires could somehow be accommodated.

This isn't something that will prevent me from using one or the other, is it?

Have you tested everything from the switch back before buying a tilt-trim off ebay?

No. The fluid has all run out, so it's a bad unit.

My manual shows both 2 and 3 wire motors used on different tilt/trim, they are wired differently in the schematics, my advice would be to get the same as what you are replacing to avoid having to rewire.

Your engine uses a remote trim electrical box with one soleniod, mounted under the rear splashwell. The electrical system that supports that trim system is setup for a 3 wire system. Stick with a three wire motor. The OMC trim system changed in mid year 81, to a 2 wire system, using the new trim solenoids.
