I have an older laser jet 1100 and a new HP DV6119us lap top computer. The computer has no 25 pin serial port and the printer has no USB port. The port on the printer is about 2/3 the size of a normal serial port. Any ideas has how to get the printer connected.

Thanks for the help!!

Ahh yes, the venerable LJ1100. Good little printers, but they did come with a proprietary printer cable. It's about the only example I can think of where the cable comes with the printer.

You could get a USB to Parallel port adaptor like this. You could also install a little wired or wireless print server up on your home network. Or if you have another computer on your network plug it into that and share it.

By the way...
If it hasn't already, it's going to start feeding 2,3,4...25 sheets at a time. If you like it, don't throw it away. The parts are about 35 bux and not hard to replace. The roller and pad just get worn and it can't grab a single sheet with the precision it used to.

i386 that cable will not work. The 25 pin is male and the one for the printer is a bar. I have the original printer cable. Do they make an adapter which would be 25 pin female and usb on the other end. The only way it would work is if I plug the two cables together.

It should work. One end of your cable is the one with the funny connector and clips. The other end is a 25 pin male.

Now, you connect the 25 pin male end to the 25 pin female end of the adapter and plug the usb end into your computer. Remember, it's not a replacement cable, it's a parallel to usb adaptor.

Here's another option... Link

Not for the LJ1100. Instead of the standard centronics parallel connector on the printer is has a proprietary connector that matches the proprietary cable that came with the printer. The connector looks similar to a 50-pin high density scsi cable (because of the clips). No idea why HP did that, but to my knowledge they only did it once. My only guess is that printer also had a scanner option. It clipped to the front of the printer. You could use it as a printer or a simple b&w scanner.
