The motor I have been looking at I was able to confirm based on the feed back from this forum which was great..Motor is a 1977 200 HP Johnson. Numbers I had inverted digits and should have been 200TXL77. My concern now is that originally being told by owner this was a 150hp motor I had looked into the rating spec for my boat to make sure it could handle the 150hp.
Boat is a 17.5 ft 1983 Larson Mach I. With a Motor rating up to 150HP.

Transom is solid and weight from what I can tell from reading should be about the same between both motors. The motor runs like a top but am I going to have issues in trying to put this motor on the boat?

Thanks one again for your input.

Re: HP rating issues from 150/200hp Johnson

I checked on the weight capacities for the boat and it weighs 1250lbs and has a rating cap up to 2005lbs with 8 people. Max I usually run is 4 adults 2 or 3 kids. 200hp Motor is about 400lbs.
I'm not looking to make this thing into a dragster but price is right on the motor and I don't have a fortune to spend on a new one.
Thanks

The weight should be virtually identical & loads on the transom might actually be higher with the 150 (same displacement, but tuned for more low-end punch).

For legal reasons, I have to warn you that overpowering your boat is dangerous, and can lead to severe injury or death to others and/or yourself.

You might take a look on the 'www.screamandfly.com" forum at some of the precautions people take when running seriously fast outboards (dual steering cables, foot throttles, driving with a chinewalking hull) - I have a feeling you might need them...

By the way, is that 200TXL a 25" shaft? Your boat ought to be a 20" transom...

Thanks for the feedback. That is my concern, overpowering. The shaft I need to verify. My transom is set for 20". I took of a 1974 115EV that was a 20". I may want to look at options for another motor..
Thanks
Again
PSt
