Hp rating on 20ft sweetwater

I have a 1999 20ft sweetwater 23in tubes it has a 40 hp 4s honda on it.
Motor and boat is in excl shape but it is to slow I would like to put a larger motor on It but the rating lable says 60 hp max I would like to go bigger how do they get there ratings I had a 1981 harris flote boat with 19 in tubes prior to buying this
and it was rated 75 hp any one have any ans to how they rate boats or if I could go bigger then 60 hp? Thanks for any help

I have seen some motor pans made from heavy tin foil and some made from 1/4 plate, the first is rated at 60 horse the latter at 350 so it depends on how the pan was built not the size of the boat.

If you put a bigger than rated motor on it eventually the transom would fail and they generally go all at once with no warning, at speed, so no don't over power.

Maybe contact Godfrey marine and see if they will sell you a motor pan with a higher HP rating, you would have to do this through a dealer but they may go for it.

I build pontoons and we make 2 different motor pans, one is ratedd for 150 and the other will hold a Yamaha 350, obviously the one is much stouter than the other.
