Re: hpdi 250 surging

do you have an EFI fuel rail tester? you MUST maintain 48 PSI from the VST to the high pressure pump and a minimum of about 1000 PSI on the high pressure rail. do you have access to the laptop or at a minimum the diagnostic test lamp to look for any monitored sensor codes?
at a minimum you MUST have the factory shop service manual and a decent Digital Voltmeter with a DVA adapter to test the injector drivers, the high pressure fuel sensor and a few other things.
your describing a lack of fuel, how long did this engine sit before you got it and what is its maint history?
also run the PID through a Yamaha dealer to make sure all updates were done on the oiling system.
if you do not have the manual and the basic test equipment I will have to reccomend finding a shop with at least one Master tech employed to find the issue BEFORE it wipes a piston.

Re: hpdi 250 surging

thanks rodbolt....i do have 50.8 psi. i took it to a yammy tech today. he is going to go through it for me and hook it up. this is way past my knowledge of outboards.....it sat for about 3 weeks before i put it on my boat. owner is a friend of mine and i knew the engine ran perfect when it was de rigged and sent up to me.

also. my fuel management guage isnt showing anything on the LCD. i have a backlight but iit wont show anything??? the tach did the same thing till we fired it up the engine the first time and then it started to work?? any idea on that fuel management?

the engine was run for about 2 or 3 minutes like it is now...we changed the plugs. tried again for about 30 seconds and thats all it was run. ill let the guys who know what they are doing handle thisone....thanks
