Maybe Rodbolt can answer this one. Two 2004 HPDI 300's came in the shop last week that fell off the lift during Katrina. No insurance but the guy doesn't need it. Only the engines went under. They got them up, we flushed, disconnected shift switch so all cylinders would fire, fogged heavy while running them for 10-15 minutes. Both engines shut down at that point but didn't care since they did run and we did get them fogged. New wiring harnesses for both engines, all connections cleaned, new relays in the fuse box. Anyway the YDS is giving me a injector fault #26 on both engines and the injectors aren't firing. Can't find a frapping thing wrong with anything but keep getting the injector fault. What am I missing? My Yamaha Tech thinks I've got crap in the injectors but water never got in the fuel system and that wouldn't show up on the YDS as a fault.

Re: HPDI experts

crap in the injectors wont set a code. sounds like ya got the same inexperienced tech reo I have. <br /> all the puter looks for is a complete circuit.<br /> and the injector test function uses a different circuit than the run circuits. I would suspect a fault in the ECM, wire hareness between the ECM and the driver or a driver.test driver voltage with a CD 77 or other peak reading meter, should see about 85V. if the voltage injector is there switch to an analog meter and test the ground path from the grounding side of the injector to the engine block while cranking the engine. its not in the manual and the tech reps are mostly clueless. but if you look at it as an electronics problem and remember trons is trons no matter the application its not to difficult just a beast to figgure out how to tap into the circuits.<br /> the circuit path for the actual injectors is from the driver, through the injector windings and back to the driver to ground Via a set of transistor switches in the driver. so to fire the driver the voltage is toggled. works well most the time but certain driver failures forget to set a code.<br /> try spraying a bit of fuel in the air horns and see if it will light off a bit. if it does start tracking the driver signal from the ECM to the driver and through the driver to ground.<br /> is this common to both engines?

can spray fuel in the intake and the engine will light off and run as long as you keep spraying so the ignition system is OK. All the grounds were replaced since I replaced both harnesses on both engines. Can't see all four injector drivers crapping out at the same time. Gonna pull the flywheel this morning for a long shot to be sure the pulsar coils or Crank positon sensor ain't doing something funky since everything works off of them.

Son of a gun, when did Yamaha start water cooling their injector drivers? Suppose to be sealed units but two tiny holes where the wires plug in and I guess the water pressure musta forced water past the "water resistance" seal. Can shake water out of both drivers on the port engine. Frapping four of them will be over two grand my cost.

Re: HPDI experts

Those injectors need over 100 volts to fire so any moisture will raise hell with the circuits.

Re: HPDI experts

aint nothing like water cooled drivers.<br /> but with anything over 70 volts or so saltwater plays the devil with them. a failure of a pulser coil or crankposition sensor will set a code. about the only thing the laptop does is tell me whats not wrong.<br /> did you try the injector test on the laptop diagnostics?<br />and like most the rest of yamaha electronics they aint cheep :) .

Re: HPDI experts

Installed the new drivers and worked like a champ. Reading too high of fuel pressure on starboard engine so I'll check that tomorrow. Over 1500 on the pressure but may be a connection. Cut open one of the old drivers and sent a picture to my Yamaha rep since Kennesaw said that the drivers were water tight. Not!!!

ya gotta be suspect of anything out of kennesaw :) . they dont get to see much actual "field" stuff.<br /> ill be there on the 26th for yet another go through the electrical course. gotta take a dealer friend of mine thats leagally blind. the guy is a trip. he has a masters in english and is legally blind but has always worked on either john deere's or outboards and is a dealer close by. good tech as well as a friend.<br /> myself Iam just waiting for the masters exam to be ready. hope I am :) .<br />let us know what ya find on the pressure, hope its not the regulator assy.

Sensor. Swapped it out with the one on the other engine and the problem went with the sensor. Course not one in the states so I guess it'll come from Yapan.
