Considering a boat with a Yami z200HPDI and I'm not familiar with this type of engine. I had a 2003 F225 and currently have a 2000 40 2stroke both if which were / are excellent. It has and will be used in salt water. 3 basic questions:

1) Any known problems inherent to this motor / type of motor?

2) Any reason to believe I will have a tough time re-selling the boat due to the fact that it has a 2 stroke vs a 4 stroke?

3) I still see this model on the Yamaha website. Anyone know if they are planning to d/c this technology? (The broker said they weren't made anymore but clearly he is mistaken)

Thanks for any input

Re: HPDI vs 4stroke reliablility/resale

Modern 2 strokes meet the 2006 EPA emissions standards just as well as the 4 strokes do. They are not oil and fuel dumpers of the past.. 2 strokes are faster and lighter than comparable 4 strokes and for a high hp outboard, 2 stroke is still favorable.. The HPDI system is among the best, just like Yamaha. You will have no trouble selling if you wish to

Re: HPDI vs 4stroke reliablility/resale

Have a 05 200 hpdi with 1450 hrs. Overall solid motor. As good or better than 4, gas use, low oil use and really doesn't smoke. Pretty quite. Hpdi are high on the maintance side. They don't tolerate any fuel constriction. Have to keep all of the filters clean.. The vst filter clogging is a well known problem and I have had problems with it especially the first few season. I have the vst filter cleaned at least once a year, mid pressure replaced/year and replace the 10 micron spin on every 50hrs. If you stay ahead of the filter maintance you will be happy. If not it will be a miserable experience. Can't comment on the resale. Hope this helps
