Has anyone had any experience with the new Yamaha 2 strokes? I'm replacing a 175 2 stroke Mercury, which is the max for my boat. It would be nice to stay with the same power and performance and I've heard some horror storys about Mercury Optimax.Yamaha makes a HPDI 175 and a VMAX HPDI 175. 4 strokes only come in a 150 or 200 so I'd have to go with the 150 4 stroke....hard to go backward if ya know what I mean...anyone had any experience with these 2 strokes?

Re: HPDI Yamaha 2-stroke Good or bad?

I run a 2004 150 HPDI and its a awsome motor , the problems that I have read on are the big block hpdi's but the smaller motors seem to be bullet proof like the old school were. I use it for trolling all the time and it hasn't had one hick up or anything and the plugs haven't been a problem. Pulled them after 50 hours , still look brand new. Are you sure they make a 175 hpdi, I thought they only made a 150 and 200. If I was getting anything bigger then these too I would switch to a 4 stroke.
