Hub kit or no hub kit?

What is preferred? Is the function of the hub kit just to protect the drive shaft in case you hit something? If you had a choice to purchase a prop with or without the hub kit what would you choose?

Thanks

If you ever have to replace a prop with a hub kit you will save a little bit of $$ not having to buy a new hub kit! Of course the initial purchase of the prop plus hub kit is more than a prop with an integrated hub.

If it's an aluminum prop the prop should break before your lower unit (note the word "should"). for a stainless prop it's another story.

Ok, so if I'm using an aluminum prop then I shouldn't really worry about buying a replacement prop with a hub kit?

Neither! What you should worry about is finding the prop that allows the engine to perform as it should. If that prop has a hub kit, fine. If it's a fixed hub fine! Why buy a prop that may not perform as well as a fixed hub prop just for that feature (and the opposite applies as well).
