Don't know what info you are looking for. I'm on the Hudson often. Mostly go as far South as the Kingston Rondout(was just there on Sunday) and the Poughkeepsie areas.

Torches restaurant has good food and an amazing atmosphere for Newburgh. Huge bar inside and another one outside on the water. They did a nice job developing the Newburgh waterfront area. You can pull your boat up to Torches docks too. There are other restaurants there also.
Most of the Hudson's under water topography is the same on most of the river so it does not matter much where you are cruising around wise.

Just a note off the top of my head though. . . I would not venture out onto the Hudson without a combo GPS/depth finder unless you stay only in the channel. It has a 6 foot tide and you will bang up a prop very quickly once you are out of the channel, if you don't know the waters.

What info are you looking for specifically about the Hudson, since you mentioned those two areas?

nah no real info.. just trying to make some boating friends.. yea i launch out of newburgh. theres a ramp next to gullys bar/restaurant..

Is that a free launch with free parking? I usually use the NYS launches along the Hudson. If I put in on Lake George, the marina's get $40 to launch and park on season

How safe is your trailer if there is a place to park? Don't want to come back to a stripped down trailer!

I figured my next hudson trip would be getting off an exit or two South of Newburgh, on the thruway, finding a launch area and exploring the lower part of the Hudson and driving North to Torches for lunch.

When I look South from Newburgh, I see the Hudson gets real narrow so I figured that area might be a safe haven if a North South wind picks up.

I had to drive down to the West Marine store in Havestraw (just with my car) 2 years ago to pick up two seats they were holding for me last year and figured that might be a good area to come back to and look for a launch site.

Seemed like a pain to have to drive all the way over the bear mountains and towing a boat from the thruway just to get to the shoreline though!

yea its $8 to launch with parking... parking isnt bad.. i would say its pretty safe . there are bars and restaurants right there and many people walking near the water. so if anyone wanted to mess with your trailer.. theres a ton of people that would see it and know that that isnt normal. i feel comfortable leaving my stuff there.

I finally got a chance to launch out of Newburgh last week. Nice launch area. Had an appointment at 9am last Thurs. in Newburgh so I brought my boat with me.

Grabbed a sandwich at that Deli past the oil tanks and puttered on down to the Tappan Zee bridge. Weather was like 85 and beautiful. That Castle on the Island just South of Newburgh is quite a sight.

Cruised along by West Point and out to Haverstraw Bay.

Fished for a while under the Tappan Zee and came back and had some dinner and a brewsky at Gully's. They were closing for the season a few days later. At least Torches will still be open.

Next trip down I'd like to launch a little farther South of Newburgh and cruise down to where the East River comes into the Hudson. I'll check that river out and go back and continue down the West side of the Hudson. I hear it can get pretty rough where the East River meets the Hudson South of NYC due to the boat traffic and wind, so I'll stay clear being that I'm only on a 15 footer.

I eat at the Charterhouse restaurant sometimes when I'm on the Jersey side. Can't understand why they never put boat docks in. The view of New York is spectacular from that restaurant. I've always wanted to cruise around that stretch of the Hudson which is just South of the GW bridge.

I've always wanted to cruise that bay as I drive over the Tappan Zee. Now I've done it and I'm looking forward to circling NYC. It will be like my personal "Apple Cruise Line".
