I have a 15' 1987 Bayliner Capri Bowrider. I cannot find a capacity plate on the hull. Does anyone know the ratings for this hull? I've searched the Bayline site without sucess.

Also, is seems this is the only year witha 15' boat. Were subsequent models described as 16'?

I ask these questions because the boat has a Force 50 HP on it (35HP at the prop). It is slightly under powered. I procured a Force 85 HP (60 HP at the prop). I know that the 85 HP was routinely installed on the 16' boats and want to know if I would be exceeding the maximum HP rating for my hull by installing the 85HP.

Of course the guy I got in from said no problem, but I have two teenage boys and would rather be safe than sorry.

Re: Hull HP Rating

The power loss between crank and propshaft is more like 15% than 15hp, Chuck. That means that your "50" is probably 43hp at the propshaft and the "85" more like 72hp.

Since this is not an engine trouble question, I am moving it to Boats.

Re: Hull HP Rating

The horsepower ratings I listed came from the manufacturer's tag that is on each engine. Apparently, efficiency was not a big selling factor for these engines.

Are you saying that the "50" has a tag on it that says 35 prop HP?

That's a new one on me. I just keep on learning. :)

Re: Hull HP Rating

I have the same boat in a 14' and the max HP on the plate is 50. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what the rating is on the 15'. Like you say, it's hard to figure since the 16 is rated at 85. I can tell you one thing though, I repowered from the Force 50 to a Johnson 48 and it's AMAZING how much more power and speed I get now. I hope the Force is with you! :D

Yes, the Force has a tag on it that say 35HP at the prop.
I can find the exact number if your interested, the manufacturer' tag has it to 1 decimal place.

I found out that the maximum rating for my 15' boat is 50HP at the prop. The upgrade from a Force to a Johnson added 13HP or 37% more power.

I'm going to clean up the Force 85 and tune it up and then sell it. It weighs about 270 pound and the 50HP weighs 140 pounds. It's too much for my boat.
