OK, I just acquired a new (to me) toy:

Now the Hull ID says it was certified in Dec of 83 (the last number of the ID are 1283). Then again...how many digits are in the numeral portion of the ID? Maybe it was made in February of 83????
I should add: it begins with STRL ...perhaps the L is for the 12th month of manufacture?
The Evinrude is an 1984, but I don't know for sure that it was original as there were clamp marks which are now replaced by through-bolts with the tilt/trim bracket.
My question is whether boats are like cars where the manufacture date is often before the model year? IE is my made-in-83 an 83 or possibly an 84?
