Hull Spread?

I've been looking around the FAQ's for a while and I and I haven't seen any questions about this. I am starting a restore project on an 85 Bayliner Capri bow rider. I noticed that the center section of the windshield doesn't quite line up with the rest of it when it is in the closed position. If I pull on the rails on the gunnels just in front of the windshield I can just about make it line up. Is this a big deal? How can I fix it?

Ayuh,... It sounds like all the supports for the hull are either Rotten, or Broken....
Replacing the structure will fix the hull...

Re: Hull Spread?

Thanks for the quick response Bond-O. I've never done this before so give me an idea of how much work/expertise this will take. I don't mind the work. This is as much for the learning experience as it is for getting wet. As far as expertise goes I have none.

welcome to iboats..

you do not need expertise.. you get all of it right here.. as long as you dont mind getting dirty..and you have a workspace that you do not mind getting pretty trashed and you have general craftman skills such as can measure and cut wood.. then you can do it.

normal 20 footer is about 200 hours of labor and 1500 for supplies

it could be more or less.. you wont know until you get into it and start examining it.. pictures are key.. they help people see what you see and helps them help you..

good luck

OK I'll start ripping everything out down to the hull and snapping pix. Thanks

Also take a lot of measurements and notes as they will help in the rebuild as will the pictures..

Re: Hull Spread?

I've started to rip out the interior and I'm finding some wood is wet and rotten and some is not. The same goes for the foam some areas are saturated and others are dry. How do I determine if the stringers are damaged without cutting into them? Just knocking on them they seem solid as a rock but I know they are encapsulated in a lot of glass. Another thing I have no idea about is the transom. It looks feels and sounds solid.
