I picked up a Humber Jewl boat the other day as a new project for this year. The boat is in good shape overall and so was the trailer. It came with a Johnson Stinger 75 hp. I got the whole package for $300 so I'm pretty happy overall and the work on the boat will be fun. I wonder though if the stinger will be too fast. It does not seem too big for the boat. What do you guys think?

Re: Humber Jewel

I had a Jewel years ago with a 55, which is about the same weight as the 75, and still had lots of freeboard at the stern. I had mine mounted with a home-made offset plate (6 inch), and it ran at just under 50 mph with fuel and 2 people. Post some pics, maybe your new Jewel is my old Jewel? These where a popular little boat back in the 70s, and very stable with the wide beam.

i had to google humber jewl boat. they look pretty cool, like go fast boats. i think ya should look to see if there's a uscg capacity plate on the boat. if so, it'll have list as to what max hp should be used with that type of boat.
as for too fast. i reckon that's debatable as to what too fast is. i watch youtubes of fast boats often. and there's always one that literally flys and disintegrates when it hits the water again. i guess those boats are too fast.. also, to fast may have something to do with skipper skills.
i guess my main concern would be if the stringers and the transom are sound. if not. all bets are off as to when you outboard may fall or rip off the transom if it's mounted to a rotten board.

Post some pics,
ya, post some pics of it... every one likes pics of speed boats..:)
