How much of an effect could humidity have on performance & speed on an outboard? I live and fish in the humid Mid-Atlantic area and according to my GPS, I have lost around 3-4 mph since Spring.
JD

Re: Humidity & Temperature

JD, humidity and temp have as much effect on performance as high altitude does.
All three cases cause a richer than normal condition, given a fixed set-up.
Does your boat set in the slip or do you trailer it????

I trailer it. When not in use it sits under a shed attached to my shop that is open to the atmosphere.

Could and does JD.

Not to worry. Here (in Florida) it's a well known fact that with summer and higher humidity you're going to lose a little performance. :)

JD, ok on the trailering, I just wanted to make sure you weren't experiencing some parasitic drag on top of temp rising...I think you're ok, hot, humid air is less-dense, causing a mixture on the rich side of peak, which is less than optimum performance, yet excepted as normal.
Good Luck!!

No question less dense air will affect the mixture. But correct the mixture and you're still left with less air than the motor needs to make full power. Splitting hairs, I guess. My wife reminds me occasionally how good I am at doing that...
Darned thing is she's right! (Just don't tell her I admitted it! :p )
