My Humminbird 585c is not showing the water temp and its not showing the bottom very clearly, sometimes the depth will show crazy readings like 30 feet of water when im only in about 8 feet.

What could be wrong with it?

At a stop, trolling speed, or running down the lake at 30+ mph?

If it happens at a stop then look for interference from some other device or a loose connection. If at trolling speed or running down the lake it could need the transducer mount moved to get a good reading.

If your temp probe is part of the transducer, that may indicate that there is a cut in the transducer cable somewhere. Examine it carefully for its length, especially if you were doing other work in a particular area.

Another easy check is to make sure none of the pins have been pushed down or bent. Also make sure the connectors are all the way up. If the two connector block screws are loose or metal bracket is slightly bent, they will probably not be. Remove unit from mount and inspect pins and connectors.

Does you unit display the supply voltage? If so, make sure that it is not at less than 10.5-11volts.

it does this at any speed, the transducer is mounted higher on this boat than the last one i had it on.

when i first put it on the new boat, i put the transducer on the trolling motor and i had it wired into another fish finder and it was doing this, then i rewired it straight to the battery and put the transducer on the transom, first time after i did this it worked fine, then the next time out, it didnt work and hasnt since.

Temp sensor should work in or out of water. I assume it is part of your transducer. Try to moving wire back and forth and watch to see the temp flash on the screen. A common break point is right where the wire goes into the transducer.

I found the problem, the cable was pinched in between the fuel tank and the splashwell and rubbed the cable down to the wires almost cutting it into.

Where can i get a new cable and transducer? Besides ordering one from Humminbird.

No one, including HB sells just the cable, and there is no plug at the transducer. It only comes with the transducer. Given it is on the dry side, you could attempt to splice it back together. Once after all the individual wires are connected and insulated, try to make sure the outter shield covers as much as possible. Seal the outer with heat shrink. If it doesn't work, you are not out much, but time.
