Humminbird failure < 20mph

I have a Humminbird 565 with the transducer mounted outside the transom. It works fine with i'm sitting still or even going up to speeds near 20mph, once I exceed this speed there is no feedback to my unit except for the temperature and speed. The same thing happens when in reverse but I assume that is from the turbulence around the transducer when going backwards. Is there to much turbulence around the transducer at high speeds as well?

My 565 works great at full speed, for my boat 42mph, in depths to 280 feet. It may work deeper, it's just that I've only boated in 280 feet of water. You may have your transducer mounted improperly and may have it not pointing forward enough.

...or, you may have an errant electrical current interfering with your returning sonar echo

Can you post some pictures of the transducer? Pics from the side and directly behind are best.

It's more than likely a transducer mounting issue. Try adjusting it so that the back of the transducer is slightly lower than the front. If that doesn't help then play around with the transducer height, making small adjustments followed by a test run.

Sounds like your transducer is mounted too close to a strake or there's something near it that is throwing spray around. Your transducer won't read bottom thru air bubbles very well and this sounds like the issue you're having.

The direction prop spins makes a difference. Standing behind transom, prop spins clockwise in forward mount transducer on right, left if counter clockwise in forward

Even though all of the basic transducer mounting rules are followed, vertical or horizontal adjustment is otentimes for naught...such as remounting the transducer in a new location.

Prop twist has no effect on a transducer. Moving forward at speed regardless of twist, jets water aft. Left or right twist in reverse will jet water toward the boat.
