I have a Humminbird LCR 400 ID fish-depth finder. The display is dim, hard to read unless the sun is shining on it. Is there some internal light that's burned out?

Has anyone ever taken one of these apart? OR, does the same axiom that applies to taking rifle scopes apart apply here?

Any suggestions other than a new device?

Thanks,

The unit is too old and HB will not service it. Even if you have electronics repair background, units are not easy to repair. Not sure if HB would provide a schematic.

These older units did have low contrast displays that required you to be at certain angles to view. I don't believe that unit has any contrast adjustment or back-light capability for night time viewing.

Kinda what I figured, although HB still had manual for it online, but no repair manual. I really just wondered if there was some replaceable bulb or light in it, although I didn't think so. You never know until you ask. I intend to contact HB asap and just see what they say.

Didn't really think someone was gonna chime in and say "oh, just pop the back off and replace the bulb with a 1157", but you never know. Sometime the simplest solutions are the ones the hardest to find.

Thanks,
