Hi everybody I am having some trouble with this transducer. I mounted it per the instructions (or so I thought) and now when I go out on the boat the transducer sprays water up it looks like a Yamaha Jet Ski going through the water... I'm on a BASS BOAT! Anyway I will include a picture let me know what you see.

Boat is a 1988 Tournament TX-17 Bass Tracker. The fishfinder is a humminbird 586c.

I used the most common degree transom angle that humminbird said was most common on boats.

Thanks for the help. Dan

Re: Humminbird Transducer Mounting

It looks way too low to me. Water is coming over the top of the transducer. I'd move it up the transom about an inch, and retest. Use a transducer mounting plate so you don't have to keep drilling new holes in transom. HB transducers seem to always be large and need allot of trial and error to find the best location.

Your transducer is too low but, even at the correct height, Hummingbird transducers still tend to roostertail. There is a mod you can make from thin aluminum plate found at ACE hardware. I will see if I can attach a picture of it.

John

There is a little square rubber plug that should have come with the transducer to eliminate the roostertail. Is that plug installed? It snaps in place between the ears on the mount. You may still get a little spray, but this will eliminate the roostertail..

Also, I agree with previous posts, mounted way to deep.
