I bought me a hummingbird 565 about a month ago. It is detachable from the mount, like most all fish finders are. Before installing, I tested the connection of the detachable power and transducer cable to the head and thought to myself, the power cable seems to kinda fit loose. I installed and sure enough, every time I hit a wake, wave or any little thing that jolts the boat, the unit looses power and turns off. This is a major pain. I'm sure hummingbird will gladly send me a new cable, but hate to even have to mess with it again. I figured hummingbird was a quality product, they've been around a while. Anyone have the same problem with this type fish finder?

Re: Hummingbird 565

It sounds like you just have slid the cable on over the connector. Most HB units do not work that way. The cables are retained in the tilt/swivel mount via two screws and a metal cable retainer. See four pieces on left:

For some reason a number of HB pdfs are not working. See: http://www.humminbird.com/PDF/400tx.pdf See page 19: INSTALLATION: CONTROL HEAD INSTALLATION for a good view. You should have received an installation sheet seperate from users manual.

I just installed a HB on my Starcraft, you need those parts listed above. Once you have those installed your HB will slide on and off and won't give you a problem.

I have the same model. The problem I had was when putting the HB back on the base it would push the power wire out the bottom. I had to bend/adjust the metal cable retainer and haven't had a problem since.

Re: Hummingbird 565

Thanks for replies,

All mounting pieces pictured above were used and was installed per directions. But, thinking back now, there were two power cables in the box. I have a spare in the tool box. I'm thinking this thing was returned and resold. I'm gond disassymble, inspect install, and probably return.

So, when this thing is working propperly, no power loss in rough water? Seems like thats when I really need it but it's always powering down on me!
