I just bought a Humminbird 717 and the GPS accessory. I have it hooked up and working fine, but I wanted to know if there is anyway to get a map of the waterways and lakes for this unit? All I get right now is a grid that looks like a 7th grade geometry homework assignment and a picture of a boat. I can purchase a PC connector cable to download updates, but I have no idea if this unit is compatible with any maps...please help.

Re: Hummingbird 717

For some reason this unit even though it is GPS capable does not have a card slot so the only way to link up with anything is to purchase the PC cable, but I don't want to buy one if there is no maps that I can download to it...has anyone had a Humminbird without the SD slot the they were able to get a map for?

Contact HB tech service, but believe that only the unimap can get updated with a S/W download. Unimap is HB's base map which is just an outline of most waters and is part of the units s/w. ie there are no 3rd party maps, like navonics, that can be downloaded. It is probably worth getting the cable just to be able to update the sonar s/w.
