Hummingbird - Wide Eye T - Need replacing

I purchased a used boat that came with two Hummingbird Wide Eye T depth finders. As luck has it, they dont work when I put them in the holders, I realize they are maybe late 90's model so I'm not upset.

My question is about determining what to replace. I have two in the 14' boat and the wiring/base are well routed and attached.

Can I use the same wiring, bases and sensors for new equipment, if I stick with Humingbird? If not will it be possible to use the same wiring or should I just replace everything?

Cost is an issue and currently not alot of time for fishing, what is the best entry model?

You could reuse the mounts and possibly the transducers with a number of 300, 500, or 700 series HB units, but first need to figure out what is bad on current units.

Are both transducers on the transom, or one on the bow?

Do they power on/beep etc?

No:
- Check for 12V at 2 pin connector (you should only have one 2-pin connector per base, if more than one, let me know).
- Make sure connector or pins didn't get pushed down.

Yes:
- Tell me what is on display.
- Get to diagnostic menu and see if transducer is connected.
- Is there a light clicking noise coming from transducer?


No 12V on pins:
- Follow wiring back to battery.
- Check fuse.
- Power feed switch off?
- Check connections at splices.
- Battery dead?


While I am not familiar with what a "T" model, the transducer is probably a 3-pin. Modern units can't use it as is. One of the pins needs to be removed to convert to simple 2D transducer, but it might not be ideal vs using the transducer that comes with a new unit.

The tilt/swivel base can be reused with a $7 connector change.

Neither of these will save you any money, because they will come with the unit. Just saves you some installation time.

I think with two of them and neither working there is a common problem. Time to do as above and start tracing wires. You will probably find something minor. Make sure they are wired correctly to the battery and the inline fuses are in place and good. It's something simple. The chances something is wrong with both the units themselves is very remote. Like I said it's more than likely a common problem.
