I can only assume that most boater plan their trips out, trying to take into account every factor. Well for those of you that are looking to take the intracoastal; north or south, information has not kept up with events. Most if not all boats transiting from Albemarle Sound in NC to Hamton VA usually make a fuel, water and dump station stop in Elizabeth City, NC. DON'T!
There is no longer fuel, or a dump station there. Water is available at the city dock only. The two marina's that serviced the southern end of the route were totally distroyed and have no plans of providing anything more than water and a dump station once they get rebuilt. The only fuel available is 26 miles away on the Alligator River which is also 25 miles off the ICW track. Better have fuel for the transit plus 55 miles of reserve. The safest route would be the long way through the C & A canal, at least they have fuel, water and a dump station.

I talked to one of the Marina owners and he said that it will be at least another month before he has pier services restored for transiting boats.

Good luck

Re: Hurricane aftermath

Just an update for those looking to transit from Albemarle Sound to Chesepeake Bay. Avoid Elizabeth City. Right now there is only one partal service Marina. (Dump Station and water) And it appears that it will be late summer before anyone here will have fuel. The safest way to get either north or south will be through the C&A Canal. :(
