I was wondering if the insurance companies would be selling hurricane damaged boats like they do at car auctions? Also if that might be a better way to get into a newer boat with 5-8 grand?

If you were a body / repair guy or a Mechanic it may work out good. You would have to do your homework on your fix up costs.

About a half a year ago I saw what was a brand new Skeeter selling on ebay for around $3500. Something hit the rig or it came off the truck - something like that. Anyway, they had pics and I think someone who was good with fiberglass and if you found the dinged up engine parts cheap enough you could have got a $40,000 rig for 10 or so grand after fix up. The lower unit looked bad, the trailer needed serious alignment and there was a huge gash down the front of the bow exposing the foam floatation. Would make quite a project.

Also try salvagedirect.com Lots of boats all over because of the hurricanes. Friend of mine bought two, one with a good hull and the other with a good engine and OD. We took a sawzall to the other hull yesterday.
