I have a 2006 hurricane sd217 w volvo sx 5.0 mpi
right now wot is about 5200 -top speed about 45mph
altitude is approx 3800 ft
with a full tank of gas and 3or4 passengers it takes forever to plane out. i am currently using a 19 pitch 3 blade stainless prop.
options as i see it are
1 maybe a 19 pitch 4 blade prop (aluminum?)
2 smart tabs??
3 hydrofoil of some type (stingray xrIII?)
any thought or comments on this would be greatly appreciated. i hate to give any of the top end up but cant hardy stay on plane under 30..
the picture is of a boat just like mine but w merc power not sure where the smart tabs would go?

Re: hurricane slow to plane

Don't have much to add here, I actually have a similar problem on my Hurricane, if not quite as bad. Things are ok with just a few folks onboard, but with more than 6, things go South quick. It also never planes out less than about 22-24 MPH regardless of load.

Mine came with the 4 blade aluminum prop, but I honestly think time to plane is not any worse with the 3 blade SS, and the top end is MUCH better with the 3 blade. The 3 blade aluminum sucked (all 19") I don't think that is the answer.

Word on the street here is that fins (hydrofoils) are a bad idea. I am considering smart tabs, but my son and I love to wakeboard and I am afraid it might kill the wake. I am also afraid they will get in the way of swimming around the stern.

Good luck, let us know if you solve your problem.
