Husqvarna or Stihl Chain saw?

Since we have moved back to Indiana from Colorado, I have purchased a small "farmette" and rejoined my old buddies "wood cuttin' club".

They all use and like Stihl chain saws. I like to be different (and create some competition) and am interested in a Husqvarna saw. Mainly looking for a saw that will do a good job and last.

"Buy American" does not seem to apply here, since I am told the Stihl is made in Germany and the Husqvarna is made in Sweden.

Can any of you "woodies" comment?

Marty

Both saw manufacturers share the highest
customer satisfaction of any saws I have ever used.
Both are excellent saws

Hi Marty,

Awhile back I had posted a similar topic. With the response, I bought a model 310 Stihl. I am really happy with it. With the 20" blade, it is a true workhorse. I have a 24" blade for it also, but it does get a little underpowered with it, but still happy with its performance. I only use the big bar on the big trees when needed.

Be careful on the Husky. The smaller cheaper ones are not the same as the professional Husky's which is more expensive.

If you want to be different, then get a different model that what they have. Sthil makes a wide range of saws to choose from.

Good Luck and wear that saftey equipment.

I've used both brands from 18" to 36" bars. Both very good. I like a saw that starts quickly. Stihl 044 for fun.

never used anything Husqvarna but I love Stihl anything. I do lawn and landscape for a commercial company and weedeater, edgers, blowers and Chainsaws are all Stihl.. we have had minimal problems with using them. (and by using them I mean everyday all day during the summer in the Texas Heat.) I would stick with what your buddies are using or try and get a Husqvarna demo or something to test.

Later

Kevin

Stihl 032. will run forever. My really old one has never needed anything but new starter dogs every few years. I don't think you'd be dissappointed either way though.

You REALLY want to cause a ruckus?? I think the Stihl is the better saw in the size you need, Go ahead and get a stihl and after you have it broken in good change to a Synthetic oil and they will go nuts wondering why your saw doesnt smoke like theres and has more power!!

I still own and use the two Stihl's I purchased in 1990. Thay haven't played up and I do all my own maintanence.
I have owned other brands which I won't name here and they've all died long since. I used to cut firewood semi-commercially.
I can't claim to have a lot of knowledge on the Husky but my friends seem pleased with them as well.
The only difference we've found working side to side with similar machines was the Husky ate more fuel and the air filter required cleaning sooner than the Stihl.
Ross
