Hey guy - tried to pm you, but your mailbox is full.

I'd love to get my hands on a copy of your prop/slip tools for excel, or run my numbers through to see what prop I should have.

Care to hook a brother up?!

thanks!

Saw the list of questions there... ;)

1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.

Low top speed

2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless and as a minimum.

OEM Evinrude Aluminum

3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).

10.3 x 12

4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)

unknown - max speed with fuel, motor, 2 adults, gear - 27mph

5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP

2010 E-TEC 25 HP - Tiller, SS, ES

6) Boat make model, year, length and weight

2008 Crestliner XCR 1462 V L: 13'8", b: 62", w: 140lbs

Eso, you can't run prop slip numbers without having the RPM to determine them. Sorry.
Buy a Tiny Tach for about $ 50 and get me some numbers and I can help you with prop slip and a better prop for your needs.

A couple of things to keep in mind.A careful setup can gain a couple of mph.
The antivent(cavitation) plate just above the prop even with the bottom is considered a starting point.If you have no venting problems now raise the motor a little at a time to a point just before venting becomes a problem.
Could gain a couple of mph at no cost.Your 25 is probably capable of about 32-35 with a light fast boat.While your boat is light I don't think it is particularly fast and with a load 2 + gear I don't think it would get up on the water as well as a "large" 14 footer.

thanks guys.. i'm going to see what i can do about a tach today.. the tiny tach costs at the only place i can find them here are ridiculous. ($35 online, vs $70 locally!!)

can a guy use an old automotive tach and just divide the result in half?

I don't think its a good idea to connect just any old tach to an electronic
controlled outboard.tinytach works off plug wire firing pulses.Will work on any 2 stroke 2 cylinder.

Well.. I went out and bought a Tiny Tach, and then went to my dealer who offered me a selection of props.

We did some testing with 4 props.. and came down to the conclusion that the prop that came with the motor originally, is our best choice.

That said, here's the data;

Standard OEM Evinrude Prop - 3 Blade, 10.3 x 12;

trim 1 36.3 km/h 5240 rpm
trim 2 40.3 km/h 5436 rpm
trim 3 42.7 km/h 5590 rpm
trim 4 44.0 km/h 5680 rpm
trim 5 45.2 km/h 5750 rpm

Evinrude Aluminum Prop - 3 Blade, 10 x 15;

trim 1 Not Tested
trim 2 38.5 km/h 4650 rpm
trim 3 39.2 km/h 4620 rpm
trim 4 41.7 km/h 4830 rpm
trim 5 43.5 km/h 4920 rpm

We test also a 4 blade 10 x 14 and a 4 blade 10 x 16, but the performance just wasn't there.

I've settled on trim 4, even though 5 was faster, because it felt "better".

It looks like you have just what you needed, you and the dealer did great. Now, aren't you glad that you bought a tach, it lets you know exactly what is going on.

Indeed, not to mention it has service reminders, job timers (or what i think will be a "trolling timer" for those times on the lake where I can't seem to keep track of how long i've been out), hour meter, etc.

I just had the boat out yesterday, this time in salt water. Being that it's more dense than fresh, the performance was even more so - I actually couldn't run at full throttle for fear of sh*tting my pants... it goes pretty fast for an open utility aluminum boat hehe :)

Hard on the throttle it shoots out of the hole, and then i can take it back to ~4000 rpm where it cruises nicely on top of the water. Overall, very happy with this Evinrude E-TEC.

While i'm posting, i have to say i'm also very happy with my dealer.. if anyone in Vancouver (west coast Canada) is looking for a stand-up dealer that is very helpful and informative, go see Murray at Lordship Marina on Victoria street in Vancouver. Excellent guy, and great service.

They are wonderful, i have one on my boat as well. It tells me when to change the lower unit oil as well as the impeller and many other things. LOL I am glad you are happy.
