Hey everyone, so I'm back with yet another handful of questions about the best way to tackle this repair. The top of the transom on my Hyde Kanoe has cracked. I really would like to open it up and reinforce transom with some fresh ply as there is a bit of flex but don't really want to try to remove entire cap. Should I just cut a section out from hull ( white portion ) and rebuild transom that way and glass over the cap (red portion) or would there be any benefit to leaving it as two separate pieces? Or should I just repair crack in cap, keep transom as is and just plan on running trolling motor/ under 3 hp outboard? I don't think that the transom is rotten, just not sure that it was beefy enough to handle my four-stroke 6 hp. I've searched a little bit but it's difficult to find topics about this. The cap just seems to be glued on with no mechanical fasteners. Thanks for any and all input!!Screenshot_20190818-084706.pngScreenshot_20190818-084656.png

I'd want to know for sure if the transom has any rot - if I was gonna be doing anything there, I'd want to do all that was needed

Do you think it'd just be best to cut out from the outside with jig saw/ oscillating tool and then just glass it all together? I can't really get to inside because of design unless I remove cap which I'm not a hundred percent sure I can do. Maybe with a heat gun...

I agree about the rot and I'm just trying to come up with the best way to go about it.
