Hi,

We are trying to find out where to get a hydraulic hand pump operated tilt trim for outboard motors. If you know who makes or sells them please let me know. Thank you. Bob.

Re: hydraulic hand pumped tilt trim info wanted

Hey ba_50 a few years ago a mate of mine made a manuel tilt trim from an hydraulic car jack. I don't know the ins and outs of it but I saw the finished article and it worked fine except for reverse gear. I know that it would trim out OK and to reset the trim back to zero he'd loosen the bleed which would normally lower the jack.
Sorry I can't be more specific but I don't see this mate as he's overseas at present.
Ross

BA,

I INSTALLED ONE ON A BOAT OF MY DADS ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO. I CAN'T REMEBER WHO MADE IT.

YOU CAN BUY AN ELECTRIC ONE FOR ABOUT 5-600.00 FROM CMC. THIR WEBSITE IS; WWW.COOK-MFG.COM. A FRIEND PUT ONE ON HIS DUCKBOAT ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO. IT WAS ALOT CHEAPER THAN THE SYSTEM FROM MERC.

ba_50,

I have a hydraulic trim setup on my 1973 DUO Sportster. It apears to be as old as the boat itself. It utilizes a lever to pump the engine up with both forward and reverse strokes then to lower the engine you just turn the pressure relief screw. The information on it reads as follows:

DOLE FLUID POWER
Manufactured by ARROW MACHINE INC.
Hutchinson, Kansas
Model S-P500
Serial 18827

I hope this is able to help you find what you need.

EQCM2B

I have this same manual hydraulic setup, S-P500. I have a 1979 Hurst 15' bass boat. It has a 1979 55HP Evinrude Model 55975. On this hydraulic setup, I can pump the handle and the trim will raise, but when it gets to the motor it will lose pressure and drop. Any suggestions anyone?

Mike,

Is yours the type where you turn a knob and let it down?

I've never seen one but it sounds like a hydraulic leak might be causing the pressure to drop or faulty pressure relief knob.

I would be interested in buying one that works ok, but if you can't fix yours let me know how much you want for it. Thanks. Bob

Back in the 60's, we built hydraulic t&t's using Portapower jacks and rams. Primitive, but they worked. ;)

c/6
Hooty

Hooty,

Were your t&t's strickly hydraulic or electric?
I am wondering why these Dole pumps aren't made now. Bob

Yes mine is the type that you turn the knob and it lowers. How would I fix a faulty pressure release knob? Also, the fluid in it is solid pink, like a strawberry milkshake. I have some hydraulic fluid from work that I am planning on trying, draining the old stuff first. Let me know what you think.

The picture of the handle of the manual pump from the old merc looks very similiar to mine. Mine says Dole S-P500 not P500. Same company, different model.

The ones we built were 100% manually operated.

c/6
Hooty

Could someone post pictures of these pumps so I could see how they are made? Thanks. Bob

Hooty,

We found a porta power at an auction and we just need to figure out how to make a mount for the back of the boat. How did you make yours?

Dole sent out of business quite awhile ago. This porta power has oil in it. I'm wondering if the strawberry color you are talking about in transmission fluid as some tilt trims use it.
